The Missing Ingredient in Your Workout

As a personal trainer I hear this story all the time; I am doing everything right- I am eating well and exercising regularly but still battling the bulge.
It’s so frustrating!
What could possibly have gone wrong?
From my experience it is simply one missing ingredient which makes all the difference to my clients workouts and the results in fat loss speak for themselves! Read this if you are not getting the fat burning results from your efforts/ that you deserve It is common to hear regular gym goers comment on lack of results, particularly when it comes to fat loss.
So we thought we would clear a few things up.
Results are achieved when three areas of training are addressed:
1. CARDIO (huffy puffy exercise)
2. RESISTANCE (weight bearing exercise)
3. NUTRITION
If you think you are eating right, completing cardio and resistance workouts but are still not seeing results, then may I suggest the missing ingredient is INTENSITY.
(Either that, or an unrealistic assessment of what you are actually eating.)
So let’s talk cardio intensity.
Your trainers will touch on cardio during your sessions, but we are not in the habit of walking or running with you for the full half hour / hour as we don’t believe that you should be paying us to hold your hand for something that can be done by yourself.
Instead, we will work on cardio with high intensity to get maximum impact from a short time frame.
Between training sessions, you should be doing your own cardio workouts (running, walking, rowing, bike riding, aerobics class etc) and it should have varied intensity to challenge the heart rate and recovery to increase your caloric burn.
Interval training (varying the intensity) will burn more calories than if you stayed at the same pace doing the same exercise. The best thing is that your body will be burning more calories at rest over the next 24 hours.
When it comes to resistance intensity, we are referring to the amount of load applied to the muscle to create growth.
(Your trainer will judge this for you during training sessions). Effectively the load should be enough to create microscopic tear in the muscle fibre.
This fibre then re-builds during post-workout recovery, resulting in increased muscle fibre (hypertrophy).
When this happens, you are increasing your metabolism, resulting in greater over all caloric burn, 24 hours a day.
